Specific Topic Search Engine Links, The Dawn Of Niche Portals

Niche Portals = Specific Topic Search

What is a Niche Portal? Its a directory or search engine within a particular subject/area (topic specific) like a city, geographical region, TV show, a certain health issue (say a cancer portal), certain religion link databases, career fields, ER nursing, certain political parties, poison info/lookup site, directories about pets/dogs/cats/horses, etc.

These days when you search on any of the large well known major search engines (billions of pages can be too much), you find many irrelevant links. Sometimes it would be real helpful if you could just start with a human edited (not some mass spidered web bot that was set loose so the search engine could have the most links, relevancy is more important to me) specified topic (niche) search engine (for example, if you were looking for information on a few prescription medications, you'd check up your meds on say http://www.MedChecker.com to find out more details and side effects & information).

Here are some other samples of topic specific search engines (near niches):

* http://www.WHAK.com is a comedy search engine to find links to funny websites. Submit your funny pages here!

* http://www.ZabbaSearch.com is a search tool to look up addresses and phone numbers of US residents. Uses public data from voter registry and other sources like domain name lookups, classmates, etc.

* http://www.Canuckster.com is a Canadian only link search engine, free to submit Canada related sites only (also see http://www.FriendlyCanadian.com for a Canuck directory search example).

* http://www.SpareSomeChange.com (AKA The Homeless Search Engine) is a low-income humanitarian web portal (homeless can use at local libraries) for finding poverty related help and resources. Please tell poor people about this site and/or add helpful links.

* http://www.ShoutCast.com is a great online radio broadcast search tool (uses free version of http://www.WinAmp.com media player to stream live radio stations off the internet, they even supply freeware plugins & software to set up your own internet broadcasted radio station server).

* http://www.Fire-Find.com is a basic firefighters search engine...

* http://www.SeekFreak.com/World/ lets you search specific countries or find a specific country SE on http://Search-Engines.4-All.org.

* http://friendlycanadian.com/ontario is a neat example (a classic niche sample) of a local based web portal that any small community webmaster can set up to help promote the local businesses and services. This portal is for a small district in Ontario (Grey-Bruce County) and seems like a good resource for anyone living in that locality.

Thanks for reading and learning what a niche portal is :)
